Draft Poster Text

Playful, unique and hyperactive - three words that describe a special cow. Cowdy, the dancing cow of the meadow, is a creature who lives on a farm with all her other farm-living friends. There's one aspect about her which makes her so special and that is, she dances. Alongside her dancing comes a studio where she practices all day and night to impress all her furry friends. This studio is especially made for her and her creative dancing ability.

The studio designed for Cowdy is in itself designed especially for her and her hobby. It consists of a two-story building; one story being a gathering area to relax after a long day, and the second story being where the classes are held. The roof design of the building is purposely made open to let fresh air in and, because they are animals, nature takes its place and enters through the gaps leaving it a natural environment.

The images and text above show a draft of Cowdy's poster. I changed my mind about which environment I was to choose, so the renders below are of Pinky's habitat (the chosen creature).

Le Corbusier related a lot of his work to nature. It wasn't until 1922 that his worked started to take physical form, sticking to the theme of "a machine for living in". He created buildings all over the world, and his later years worked in India.


Maisons Jaoul

Maisons Jaoul is a simple structure that follows by the 'urban' standards of a building. It simply made using geometry (squares and rectangles) and follows by a specific and recurring structure. The sections and plans of the building show its geometry and structure by the use of dark and light outlines throughout. On the other hand, the photographs and model of this building show otherwise. The building seems to have curved roofs in these representations which isn't represented in the buildings plans.

Notre Dame du haut is a beautiful piece of architecture that brings your eyes straight to it and its different shapes and forms. The structure is also made of geometric forms with quadrants and curves. In comparison to Corbusier's Maions Jaoul, the plans and sections for this building correspond to the model and photographs of it. They both show the contrast used against sharp lines and curves throughout the structure, and both show the detail in how these two aspects are put together.

Wk3 - Character Profiles, Sketches and Digital Habitats

Character Profiles and Sketches

Pinky:

Pinky is a fish who lives in her own little lake in a Japanese Zen garden. She spends all her time there swimming around and relaxing, enjoying the beautiful view and clear crystal waters. The lake consists of two stone slabs containing pebbles and plants, with a tree situated in between both the slabs.


Cowdy:

Cowdy lives on a farm with all of her other farm friends, but she spends most of her time in her studio working on all her moves. She's a special cow who loves to dance and for this reason she spends all her time practicing, going to lessons and doing what she loves best - dance! Her studio consists of two levels; the first is where she hangs out with her friends and catches up on a drink of water after lessons, and the second floor is where all the action happens. It contains a dance floor with a shiny disco ball, and a stage for instructors and for showing off moves.

The images presented above were done through PhotoShop. I scanned in my hand drawn sketches and simply played around with some colour and brush tools to give a simple effect.
The floor plans were also created in PhotoShop by falling the hand drawn plans I presented earlier. I simply used digital shapes and lines to create this.
